Bird Box Review

Bird Box Review

JJ Aquino, Staff Writer

When Bird Box first came out it was a phenomenon that made people want to binge it. It caused those who watched it to become fascinated with what it would be like to live in a post-apocalyptic world where you can’t use sight.

Director Susanne Bier made a horrific, apocalyptic, and dramatic movie based on the novel Bird Box written in 2014 by Josh Malerman. The movie stars Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich.

The movie is based on a novel and is released on Netflix. Many people are talking about the movie and the trend it inspired. This trend is taking the internet by storm and causing people to be blindfolded while doing normal everyday activities.

The best parts in Bird Box were the beginning until midway through the movie because Bird Box has a really interesting filming style due to the fact that they flash from present scenes to past scenes throughout the movie. It kept me entertained and made me want to know more.

Bird Box was about Malorie (Sandra Bullock) and a group of people trying to survive from an unknown “creature.” The main challenge for the characters was that they had to live without sight or else the creatures would get them. They had try to find where they are going without sight which caused many complications.

There were some parts that felt weird but all together the scenes and actors were great. Sandra Bullock and Trevante Rhodes acted well. John Malkovich is an award winning actor and most performances made in Bird Box was great.

The movie is scary and intense because most scenes had the protagonist, Malorie, getting chased at with the music being suspenseful. I was surprised nothing cliche happened like tripping over nothing. In my opinion it wasn’t so scary but was very similar to “A Quiet Place” (2018) because it was very suspenseful also both movies lack important human sense.

According to rotten tomatoes Bird Box reached about 63%  and an average rating of 5.8 out of 10 but honestly should have gotten a much better score as actors and the atmosphere in the movie was incredible. Although it leaves the question to the viewers why the monster appeared and what it looks like.

There are many theories on the internet about the monster and why it is called Bird Box. One of the theories is how people are very similar to birds for example humans being in danger outside but safe inside a house and birds can be in danger from animals and safer in their home.

****Spoiler Alerts******Theories about the monster and why it makes people do bad things have been interesting. There is one theory that the monster is a devil and it makes people go crazy. It only aims for types of people like those who are insane wants to be even more insane, helping the monster get more hosts.

I would recommend to those who are interested in suspenseful and scary movies to watch Bird Box because it causes you to think if the main characters will survive or not.
