On Wednesday November 4, 2015, the third day of Red Ribbon Week. The day was called “Take Care of the Earth Day,” and focused on taking care of the Earth and its environment. The Red Ribbon Campaign nationally focuses on warning students about the dangers of using drugs and alcohol. However, Cherry Creek High School extended by not only to taking care of ourselves, but also taking care of the environment and each other.

The day’s main sponsors included Urban Peak, Amigos De Las Americas, and C.O.L.T. Club (Colorado Outdoor Leader Training). Urban Peak is an organization that helps the homeless youth in the Denver metropolitan area and Colorado Springs. Amigos De Las Americas sends young people to the Americas, including Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador,

Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Paraguay to give kids a chance to experience different cultures. Creek’s own C.O.L.T. Club brings kids together and teaches them about the outdoors.

Students and faculty wore green around the campus on Take Care of the Earth Day to commemorate being “green,” emphasizing recycling, trash removal, and keeping the Earth a healthy place.

“I try to pick up after myself and not waste water,” said Cole Thomson a junior at Cherry Creek High School.

Red Ribbon Week continued through Friday, November 6, and included Health and Wellness Day on Thursday, and Rachel’s Challenge on Friday.
