Situated in Belleview Square by the King Soopers and Einstein & Bros, Morning Story tells a meaningful story with its delicious food and comfortable atmosphere.
When you walk in, you’ll notice the little bar area, reminiscent of a Saturday morning cooking show set. On the one TV, guaranteed to be playing, is an old game show, usually “The Price is Right.”
You’ll also see the varied background colors, the moody dark-bluish gray and light tan on the walls, the warm lighting, and the pictures of happy customers in black and white.
Keep in mind the ‘prime time’ for the restaurant is around 11 on the weekends. I found that out the hard way on a Sunday, when the sight of a sizable line greeted my family when we tried to dine there. During the weekdays, you will certainly not see anything of the like, as many people have to sacrifice good food for their jobs.
However, despite how busy it was, my time was great. My seat and table were clean with no smudges or leftover crumbs, and the staff, especially my server Kourtnee, were very friendly and polite, apologizing for the long wait time as well as being very personable despite how busy it was.
I ordered the chicken and waffles, a breakfast classic, one of my favorites. Instead of putting them side by side as usual, these were stacked like a breakfast sandwich, with powdered sugar and syrup. It’s not a world bending change, but it’s a welcome experimentation that, among other things, makes these dishes stand out from the crowd.
When it came to taste, it was unbelievably good. Eating it like the sandwich it was designed for opened my eyes to how good chicken and waffles are together. The waffles were fluffy, the chicken was crispy with a hint of spice, and it was a great whirlpool of flavors. I did also get an egg with the chicken and waffles, but it was nothing spectacular, just a good old egg. By the time I had eaten the second waffle, I was already full, and most other tables around me were leaving with to-go boxes. You could tell that many people were satisfied with their meals.
When it came down to payment, it was $72 for the meals and drinks, excluding the tip. Considering the quality of the food, $24 each for a full meal is really good. But, considering the time it takes for a sit down meal, even when restaurants are quiet, this isn’t the place for the average Creek student. But it is a good place to eat on the weekends or during break, when there isn’t a bell to remind you of your obligations. Even then, you ask yourself, “why go here for breakfast? Why not First Watch or Benedicts or any other brunch restaurant?”
It’s simple: comfort. I feel as though I could just stay at the restaurant for hours, trying out the menu, watching those old game shows, taking in the atmosphere. The food is good, the seating is good, the servers are friendly, why wouldn’t I want to chill out here? Even during prime time, I didn’t feel as overwhelmed as I would at other restaurants.
This restaurant offers an enjoyable experience for a good cost and a decent wait. Give this restaurant your time, and it will reward you greatly.
