Attending one of my favorite artists’ concerts was the best day of my life. Many emotions floating through the air and people screaming their lungs out to the best songs that have ever been released by my homegirl, Billie Eilish. But, I have never felt so robbed by the music industry. Every year the Grammys just prove how much injustice there is within artists and the music they release.
After a long school day on Nov. 19, I was able to put on a cool outfit to go to her concert with my friend. I had a lot of adrenaline throughout the concert and I was screaming my heart out. Standing there in the crowd, my life felt complete.
I felt a sense of relief knowing at that moment, I had a feeling of freedom. I feel like I relate to a lot of her lyrics in certain songs and that night was the time I felt it the most. My voice was gone the next day, but it was definitely worth it.
Eilish has impacted me so much since the release of her song “Six feet Under” in 2016. The emotions she captures in her lyrics and the way that she puts them into songs, which many young people connect to, is amazing.
Watching the awards being given on the night of the Grammys slowly made me sad. Every time an award was announced, the camera kept showing Billie Eilish. Her eyes would slowly become very red and tears slowly filled her eyes.
Having that feeling after working so hard on albums and having sold out tours can be gut wrenching for an artist, but she definitely deserved something. Every year when it comes to the Grammys, she receives fewer and fewer awards for her songs. Yet she releases more music and has more record breaking songs every year.
But let’s talk about what everyone over social media is talking about, the way the votes for the Grammys actually work. There is a lot that goes on beyond just votes, but do people actually vote for the right reasons? Some might say it’s out of popularity or that it’s out of spite to see others fail.
This year’s Grammys were definitely intended to make amends with other artists; beyond just Billie Eillish there were other artists that have had a bad time while attending the Grammys in previous years.
To me, the main focus when it comes to voting for the Grammys is making up for previous years mistakes of wrongful awards in certain categories when they should be focusing on the current top winning artists and all the accomplishments they have made instead. The results of these recent years have made me not want to watch the awards show anymore.
The best part overall of the Grammy night was the performances from lots of outstanding artists, even despite how artists like Eilish were snubbed. There were, and always are, some iconic moments; most definitely how bright Benson Boone’s suit was and how it left some people speechless. I’m very heartbroken that the night didn’t go as planned, but I will always support my girl Billie Eilish and attend as many future tours as possible.
