Shoes have always gotten my attention since the day I stepped foot in high school, and most of the time I would fantasize about getting a new pair.
When it was the holidays, asking for shoes was always at the top of my list. Each pair has their own unique style to them, and I want to buy them all the time.
For a while throughout my middle school years, I would only wear the brand-name Chuck Taylor Converse and nothing else. They were my comfort shoes and I never really had any eyes towards any other brand. Also, they were the most common shoes that many other students wore, so I blended in with everyone else.
I only had the white and black colored high top Converse for a while. They were my go-to shoes. At the time I didn’t know anything about shoes, so I would constantly buy the same pair every time I would wear them out. Which was often, given that they were converse, the best original brand there is to exist.
When I entered high school, I saw lots of people wearing different types of shoes, and people told me all about them. It opened my eyes to the world of shoe style. I eventually went out of my comfort zone and got rid of my pairs of Converse. I knew I needed to get something different, something that would bring a different look to me.
I went to the mall and tried out every single pair that caught my eye. Eventually I started wearing Vans. They weren’t much of a change but they were something new to me and let me be honest, new is scary, even if it’s just something small. But before I knew it, before the end of my senior year I had over 20 pairs of shoes.
Thanks to my parents funding my new obsession, I always had something different and fun. Once I got a job, my collection size definitely doubled. I was constantly buying a pair of shoes every time I got paid because I like to dress kind of basic, but my shoes are the statement to my outfits.
Well, I might have just gotten my first job a couple of months ago, but like money always comes back, the shoes might not. You always have to look on the bright side of things. My recent new additions range from so many different brands.
My absolute favorite pair that I would wear everyday if I could would be my Ugg Lowmels. They don’t sound like a usual name for a shoe but they are definitely cute and bring out my winter outfits.
Also, Adidas have lowkey been on their A game – many of their shoes have recently become trendy. I have the Campus 00s and the Sambas from them and they don’t disappoint. They also have a big range in colors for their shoes, which is something many brands don’t offer.
But let’s take a moment for the brand called On Clouds: they are really ugly and I don’t get the hype with them. I also believe they are too expensive for shoes that shouldn’t be worn. The price for them averages around $150 for a pair. They might be comfy, but I would rather have shoes that hurt my feet and are cute than shoes that look like sponges.
I prioritize my shoes, and add to my collection over anything else. I don’t think anything else matters to be honest. Shoes make me very happy and take a lot of my money – they make me completely broke, but it’s worth it.
