Are you looking to spice up your playlist? We are going to be talking about three different genres today; Pop, 80’s, and Christmas music. The pop genre has been evolving for forever, and it’s always introducing new music if you have gotten tired of the old ones. The 80’s has some amazing classics, and it’s time for some Christmas music in order to start getting in the mood for the cold season.
Pop
“Die With A Smile” – Bruno Mars, featuring Lady Gaga
This song has definitely been in my repeats. It really expresses the emotions you feel when in love with someone, it truly describes how it feels to deeply love someone. I feel the music has a great impact on your emotions.
The lyrics that have the greatest meaning and depth to them are “If the world was ending I’d want to be next to you;” they just flow so well, and put words to an emotion that’s really hard to find the words for.
“Panera” – Grant & Ash
This song has become one of the more popular sounds being used on TikTok, and you’ve probably seen videos using it on there. “Panera” is definitely an upbeat song with a really fun vibe, and it’s a great song to listen to when feeling down, because it will absolutely cheer you up.
The lyrics that I find quite interesting are the ones about broccoli soup. “Broccoli Cheddar Soup in a bread bowl, hooray.” I mean I would be ecstatic about soup during this weather too.
“Please Please Please” – Sabrina Carpenter
The message behind “Please Please Please” is being in love with someone who others might not approve of. You might have heard this one on the radio or on TikTok, because it’s absolutely blown up recently. Sabrina Carpenter has been climbing the charts with her new releases, and I will for sure keep you updated with that. I find her lyrics in this song quite poetic honestly.
She talks about a devil inside of a man that she is interested in and she says “Whatever devil’s inside you, don’t let him out tonight, I tell them it’s just your culture and everyone rolls their eyes.” I find this poetic because she’s describing his personality as a devil.
80’s
“Careless Whisper” – George Michael
This song is my absolute favorite song ever. It makes a great karaoke song to sing with your friends or family because it has such a playful tone to it. It makes me want to get up and belt my heart out to whoever is sitting next to me.
I 100% love this song with all my heart, it’s been a classic song that’s constantly played in my household. This song has some amazing saxophone riffs, and it really brings up my mood whenever I listen to it.
“Maneater” – Daryl Hall, featuring John Oates
This song really resonates with me because while it may have a more upbeat rhythm, the lyrics are really catchy. The lyrics to this song definitely gives off more of a serial killer vibe, like the lyrics “she’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
But on the other hand, it also has a sense of greed. A good example of this would be “so many have paid to see, what you think you’re getting for free.” This lyric gives you that back and forth of well, you think you’re getting it for free, but you should watch out because others have paid for me too.
“Talking In Your Sleep” by The Romantics
“Talking In Your Sleep” is about infatuation. In the lyrics of this song the artist talks about how he listens to her sleep, focusing on her heartbeat, hearing her dreams.
He explains his infatuation with her in more of a stalkerish way by saying “Don’t’ you know you’re sleepin’ in a spotlight, and all your dreams that you keep inside, you’re telling me the secrets that you just can’t hide.” Those lyrics show you a bit about how much attention he pays to her while she’s sleeping, hence the name of the song. This song also has a slower rhythm to it, but still a catchy beat.
Christmas
“I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” by The Jackson 5
This song has a bit of a playful feeling to it. It describes an innocent child sneaking downstairs after bedtime and seeing their mom kissing Santa not knowing it’s the kids father. This is one of my personal favorites in my Christmas playlist. The lyrics “I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus, underneath the mistletoe last night, she didn’t see me creep down the stairs to have a peep, she thought I was tucked up in my bedroom, fast asleep.” perfectly depicts what I was previously saying. I would rate this song a 10/10. It brightens the mood and gets you in that Christmas spirit.
“Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande
This one is for sure one of the more played songs on my playlist. Ariana Grande plays this song as a slower, more romantic song. Although it is overall a great song compared to some of the other Christmas songs that have been produced in the past. It displays her being let down by Santa and waiting for him all over again the next year.
“Underneath The Tree” by Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson has also been one of the more active people making music in the Christmas genre. This song portrays the compassionate and welcoming feelings of the holidays. This one I would say is more of an ‘in the car’ song but great to listen to as background music.
