Statements sent to families from CCSD and Arapahoe County Sheriff urge people to reach out with more information
July 20, 2022
Creek lead softball coach Paul “Pablo” Severtson was arrested by local police and fired by the district this week after alleged online sexual abuse of a Hanover County, Virginia minor.
Severtson, 37, allegedly messaged the minor via a social media app using a fake name and age. According to local Virginia police, he encouraged her to send him nude pictures of herself. The minor has since died by suicide. The ensuing investigation brought Severtson’s online personalities to light.
According to an official statement by The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, “In March of 2022, The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia about a juvenile female that had committed suicide. Through the course of their investigation, they discovered she was talking to an individual on several social media messaging apps.”
Further investigation indicated that this individual was Severtson.
“On July 20, 2022, Investigators from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit executed a search warrant at SEVERTSON ‘s home,” the office’s statement read. “Severtson was taken into custody, and several items of evidence were seized from Severtson’s house.”
Severtson, who has been working for CCSD since August of 2020, was fired Wednesday. Families at the schools he worked at – listed as Creek, West Middle School, and Cherry Creek Elevation – were notified via email statement the same day.
“We are required by law to inform parents when an employee has been charged with certain felonies,” CCSD’s statement said. “Today, the Cherry Creek School District was notified by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office that Paul ‘Pablo’ Severtson, who is the head softball coach for Cherry Creek High School, was arrested on July 20, 2022 and charged with felony Criminal Solicitation. Mr. Severtson’s arrest was not connected to his employment with CCSD and did not involve CCSD students.”
The email also specified that while Severtson was innocent until proven guilty, the Sheriff and district wanted to offer resources to any other potential victims of the coach’s actions.
“We appreciate our partnership with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office,” CCSD’s statement read. “They are concerned there may be additional victims of Severtson nationwide.”
