The Frey Life is a youtube channel that is full of humility and hope amongst hardship. Mary Frey has Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic condition that affects the lungs and digestive system. Each day is filled with hours of treatment and new challenges, but Mary tries to find the beauty in her life despite this demanding disease.

The Frey Life consists of Mary, Peter (Mary’s husband), and Ollie (Mary’s service dog), as well as their 250,000 subscribers. Through daily vlogs, Mary and Peter raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and present what daily life looks like living with this condition.

I have been watching The Frey Life almost everyday for four years, and they have truly become a part of my life. Each day I look forward to seeing what their day holds and the stories they share with their subscribers.

Because I have watched them for their for their daily vlogs, I have not only learned about Cystic Fibrosis, but I have also learned about service dogs, feeding tubes, port-a-caths, and most importantly what it is to be a good human and what it means to be grateful for every second.

Mary, Peter, and Ollie have provided hope and joy to so many through sharing their daily life in these vlogs. They continue to be enthusiastic about raising awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and helping others fight their daily battles.

Here are some of the most memorable moments, in which they share a mixture of hardship, hope, and gratitude:

Unexpected Hospital Admission (9/11/18)

This vlog really presents the difficulties and unpredictable challenges that living with Cystic Fibrosis presents. Mary and Peter have to come to terms with a hospital admission while facing the challenges of finding the right antibiotics for Mary to be on. Although living with this condition all  her life, Mary seems to come to the realization that being in the hospital is what her body needs, despite not being what her mind wants.

Although this is one of the more difficult vlogs to watch, I think it is one of the more important ones. This vlog is raw and really shows how discouraging and debilitating Cystic Fibrosis can be, but at the same time shows gratefulness and acceptance as Mary and Peter stay gracious that they are together to come to terms with the hospital admission. “We’re together… and I am thankful for that” said Mary and Peter Frey together.

Our Week in Florida

Mary and Peter show what it is to truly embrace life in their recap about their trip to Florida. Each day was filled with new adventures and despite Mary’s disease, they were able to enjoy the time they had there.

When you have watched a youtube channel for so long, you truly become invested in the people’s life you are watching. It was exciting to see them so happy and get a break from all the daily challenges they endure. Each vlog it seems that Mary and Peter share a important life lesson. In their vacation recap they make sure to remind their viewers that Mary’s illness can’t be changed, but life can still be appreciated.
