Never in an Otaku’s life would they think of watching an anime series on Netflix, not after the live action Death Note. However, the new year brought the community a whole new experience on this popular platform.

Upon reading the title, Devilman Crybaby, it sparks the question, what is a devilman and why its crying?

Devilman Crybaby is an original series based on the popular manga Devilman and is a reboot from the anime series from 1972. Written by Ichirō Ōkouchi and directed by Masaaki Yuasa, the reboot quickly became the new topic the fandom talks about.

The series is set in the modern time, with the main protagonist, Akira Fudo, and his childhood best friend, Ryo Asuka. Akira, your typical teenage boy, was in an incident that included Ryo being in danger in the hands of demons. Soon after, Akira’s appearance and attitude changed drastically. Throughout the show, Akira fights the demons that are trying to take over the world while Ryo is later revealed to be not who he really seems.

The art style is very unique and different from other animes. The way the animation portrays demons and humans is one of its kind, but it’s something not everyone may enjoy.
While different than most animes, Devilman Crybaby captures the attention and hearts of it’s viewers in just ten episodes.
