Every Valentine’s Day at Creek the girls in Girls 21, one of the audition choirs, sing Valograms to students.

Valograms are songs performed to students during their classes throughout the day. These include “You Are My Sunshine,” “My Girl,” “My Guy,” and “L.O.V.E.” Each Valogram is $5, $6 to send a chocolate rose as well, and the money goes to funding the Girls 21 trip to New York City, where they will sing at Carnegie Hall. They sell about 500 every year, going a long way towards paying for their trip.

According to Hannah Hong, one of the members of the choir, “the best part is seeing people’s faces when they realize [that] they got [a Valogram.]”

“The music [Girls 21] usually [sings] is usually from the Renaissance and more religious.” Hong says “the only bad part of missing an entire day is making up all the work. That is a trade off I am definitely willing to take.” As one of thirteen sophomore girls in Girls 21, it is Hong’s first year singing Valograms.

“Last year I got a Valogram during my Adventure Ed class while we were above the South Gym.” Hannah Hong said “if a class is on the roof we might have to sing up there” and was hopeful for the possibility of singing up there this year.

Girls 21 practiced the songs a little bit every day since the beginning of February. They usually practice them after their performance songs. Every girl was “obviously excited,” according to Hong. Girls 21 enjoyed singing the Valograms all day and are already excited for next year.
